A simple transcript of the following interview with Kate Upton can’t possibly portray the awkwardness of it, so you’ll have to give it a listen. Some of the questions didn’t help her cause, but the fact that she’s probably had to go through plenty of these since becoming a two-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl compounded things.
Kate Upton joined 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C. with Holden and Danny to discuss modeling with penguins in Antarctica, body painting and a whole slew of other awkwardness.
What were the penguins like in Antarctica?:
“I loved the penguins. I even have a phone case now that says, ‘Keep calm and love penguins,’ because I think they’re one of my new favorite animals. They’re so cute and awkward.”
Is there anybody that you have that’s a swimsuit model rival?:
“No, because you know what, I think that modeling really is more of an individual competition. I always try to make myself be better. I never look at other people and compete with them.”
What’s your favorite movie?:
“The Thomas Crown Affair.”
Do you have any questions for me?:
“Oh, OK. Um, do you like my cover this year?”
Yes, I do. I was a fan of it, because we’ve seen a lot of bathing suits. We haven’t seen the arctic jacket.
“Did you think my arctic was hotter than just my straight bikini last year.”
I’m going to say no to that, but I like that they’re not afraid to change it up. … What’s the process like when it comes to the body painting?:
“I think the first year I did body paint it was a little bit uncomfortable. But … the artist is so sweet and makes everyone feel comfortable that it seems natural and fun. You realize that it is just an artistic technique. … The uncomfortable thing is going to shoot it after because you feel naked, because you are naked. That’s where it gets uncomfortable.”
What’s the biggest mistake you ever made? Is it this interview?:
“Ha. Yes, it is this interview. No, I’m kidding. I don’t know what the biggest mistake is. I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I try to just forget about them.”
We have a bet going. Have you ever seen Star Wars?:
“Of course. I’ve seen all of the Star Wars.”
You’re a big baseball fan. Are you going to spring training?:
“No, I’m not going to go just because I’m going to be working a lot. … They kind of kick off your career into a lot of jobs.”
